Lukeme Kalule: “This song is about a man who is in courtship after he has stolen cassava from his in-laws. According to them, it shows that he cannot be a good husband.”

Lukeme Kalule is an Acholi musician from northern Uganda. He has a beautiful deep voice and plays his ‘lukeme’ (thumb piano) in a percussive way.

Who we are

Ugandan Recordings is a Wandering Songs project to uncover and document music from northern Uganda. The search has found artists with a variety of instruments such as adungu, lukeme, nanga, bila and orak. All recorded songs are accompanied by video clips.
